Baked Ziti alla Katie

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ziti

  • Olive oil

  • 1 pound bulk Italian sausage

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic

  • 1 tablespoon rosemary

  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

  • 1 large jar of marinara sauce (about 32 ounces)

  • 1/2 pound of mozzarella cheese, grated

  • 1 heaping cup of ricotta cheese

  • 1 cup grated parmesan or pecorino cheese


Instructions

In a large pot, boil water and cook ziti according to package. While the water is heating, heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large sauté pan on medium-high. Add the bulk sausage and break up any large chunks of sausage as it cooks. Add onions and sauté, then add garlic, rosemary, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, and marinara sauce. Once ziti is cooked, drain and stir into sauce mixture.


Set the oven to 350°F. Coat a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray and add the pasta and sauce mixture. Dot the ricotta cheese over the pasta, and sprinkle the mozzarella and the Parmesan cheese on top. Bake for 18 minutes, until cheese is lightly browned and melted.
